Biz Op News

Issue 29
Biz Op News was a home business opportunities magazine published from October 1994 until June 1999.

At the time, this sort of magazine was available in large numbers.  At one time, it was estimated there were around 100 different magazines available although by the end of the magazine's run, that number had dropped dramatically.

BON (as it was known) probably became one of the better known magazines of its time, but some of that success at least was down to at least two of its rivals.  "The Millionaires Magazine" was edited and published by David Robinson who helped me with the printing of many of the 5 years.  Network News published by Anne Griffiths was also a source of inspiration.  It was a strange marketplace.  All the magazines were obviously in competition with each other but there was a large amount of co-operation between the editors of the publications as well, sharing information and stories and regularly referring to each other in their articles.

BON started in a world without the internet, but was one of the first to go on the internet in about 1995 and that interest eventually led to the creation of my other business Associate Internet Promotions.  Many of AIP's original customers were subscribers to the magazine.

As the internet got bigger during the late 90s, so it was used more and more as a source for research for articles for the magazine.  Some of this research was into scams, and it was this sort of article that BON perhaps became best known for.  One scam in particular comes to mind - that of Body Bite/Aurum Marketing

I decided to finish BON in 1999 mainly due to lack of time and the fact that it just was not profitable in the end.  As things went on, it was taking longer and longer to put together each month and the number of subscribers was in decline.  Other magazines were suffering as well.  David Robinson's magazine which by 1999 had become known as "LifeTime" magazine ended a couple of months before.

My intention was to make it into a web site, but although I have had several attempts at that since, | just have not had enough time to keep it up to date.

Amazingly enough I do still get requests for sample copies, so there must be some very out of date mailing lists out there.

I am still proud of Biz Op News and what it achieved during its 5 years.  My only regret is that it was not more profitable, but at the end of it I have now done what I was striving to do all throughout that period of time - give up the day job and become full time self employed.  It started me off on web design which is now my primary business interest.

This web site contains a selection of pages and articles from Biz Op News including the Body Bite scam that we helped expose.  I'll add more as I get time.
