Tadley Swimming Pool was built with lottery money and opened in 1998. (double click on the picture to see it full size). New management took over the running of the pool in 2006. They have finally completed the new web site - www.aquadrome.org/tadleypool
Basingstoke's newest swimming pool complex at its Leisure Park opened in May 2002 and is one of the premier swimming facilities in the county, although last time I went, I found it cold. Basingstoke Sports Centre in Festival Place is the other local swimming pool. It closed on Christmas Eve 2005 for a much needed revamp, intended to last about 7 months. Over a year later and the pool is reopened looking very smart. The Basingstoke Sports Centre web site is www.sportscentre.org.uk The pool temperature at Tadley pool is the warmest of the three pools with the Sports Centre feeling warmer than the Aquadrome big pool. The Aquadrome needed some attention last time I was there, the once white tiles in the changing rooms have turned grey and they have dropped their blue shoe policy in favour of stronger chemicals! Not many people bothered with the blue shoes anyway which was half the problem, but now it just looks more shabby. NORTHCROFT LEISURE CENTRE Northcroft Leisure Centre is Newbury's main leisure centre and pool. The pool itself is quite old and the changing facilities are equally so, but it's still quite smart The deep end is quite deep which is what I liked about it. There is also an outdoor pool. If you want to log your swims and set yourself targets to aim for when swimming, a good site to look at and join is SwimFit at www.swimfit.com. The site is run by the Amateur Swimming Association.
